iCaltrain 1.0 now available in App Store
iCaltrain app is now in the App Store. If you’re already an iCaltrain web app user, you’ll love the speed and smoothness of this app.
iCaltrain is fast and simple to use. It includes:
- scheduled arrivals for today, weekdays, and weekends (no Internet access required!)
- ticket price and zone information
- multi-touch Caltrain system map
- one-touch return trip schedule
The next two trains’ arrival times for today are instantly shown as you select the stations. The full schedule view automatically scrolls to the upcoming trains for today, too.
Location support is under beta testing right now and will be introduced as an free update.

As a long-time icaltrain web app user I’m happy to pay for the same thing as a standalone app. This is so much more, though. Thank you very much.

Downloading now. As a regular user of the website, I’m looking forward to trying out the native application.

utterly useless unless you’re going to give us delay info. waiting at a the train station for hours when you knew there was a delay when a pickup was hit at 5am.

Please ignore my original comment. I love your ap, and have it. And find it very useful. I thought Caltrain themselves were sponsoring an ap, without any info about delays, which is what i really want. They seem completely unable to even post a three hour delay on their website. Sorry about the rant, this morning sucked at the train station!

Please make a schedule for the The Bus transit system in Honolulu Hawaii. Thank you

I love the web app, but I’m terribly disappointed at the high price of this app.
It seems like this app could be funded the same way the web app is, with adds. As nice as it would be to have a native version of the app, $5 is just so much. According to AppleInsider, the average cost of an iPhone app is $2.29.
Personally, this app looks along the lines of most of the $.99 cent apps on the iTunes store. It’s a handy service, but I just feel you could drastically increase your sales with a drastic price decrease.

Awesome app! Well done!
One suggestion: if the current day is a weekday holiday, iCaltrain should display the weekend/holiday schedule.
Keep up the great work!

I noticed that iCaltrain costs $5, while iBART is a free application! why are you charging users for this application? if it was free, I’d stop using my palm pilot all together! thanks!

Looks like a very nice app! Location support will be very nice.
Do you have any plan to make it get schedule updates over the network? Or, will you have to create a new version of the app every time Caltrain updates schedules or fares? Speaking of which, there are new fares that went into effect 1/1/09, apparently. Are you doing an update?

I love you site. Is it updated for 2009 times?
January 9th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Add AM/PM or military time field.
January 10th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Can you please look into updating the fare information. I copied the below info from the Caltrain website. I was bummed my fare is now 4.25 for two zones. But i still had money left over to buy this app!
Caltrain Fare Increase Begins Jan. 1
Caltrain’s new fares go into effect Thursday, Jan. 1. The 25-cent increase to the base fare, with multi-ride tickets and passes adjusted accordingly, will help offset volatile fuel prices and increasing costs.

@Brad
iCaltrain app 1.0.1 is now in the App Store and has the new fare. The next version, 1.1, will be released in Feb and has the upcoming March 2009 schedule change.

@Jon,
The AM/PM labels are in the section heading. I tried putting them inline, but that made the schedule harder to read.
The App Store version has them inline. You can check out the screenshots in iTunes and see if you like it better.

@Jessica,
Glad you find the app useful. Both the iCaltrain App and web app have the most up-to-date schedule.
FYI, the 2009 schedule change will take place in March. Caltrain misprinted their paper schedule and incorrectly stated that there was a schedule change.

RE: schedule updates.
My goal is to update the iCaltrain schedules for both the App Store and web versions on the same day of the schedule change.
iCaltrain App users will need to update to v1.1 for the March 2009 schedule change, which I expect to release some time in Feb.

Okay, I know this is dorky, but is there a chance of putting a small Caltrain graphic on the icaltrain.com site that can be picked up when bookmarking on the iPhone? Thanks.
February 4th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
Ah, I had the m.icaltrain.com site bookmarked before. I see the red iCaltrain logo with the other site. Thanks for doing that!
