iCaltrain Updated to March 2009 Schedule
Caltrain updated its schedule today (March 2) and the iCaltrain mobile web schedule has been updated to show the latest schedule. The iPhone / iPod Touch update (v1.1) for App Store has been submitted to Apple as well, and should appear as a free update in the next few days.
Quick summary:
- Weekdays: three southbound evening trains (192, 194, and 196) depart 10min later.
- Weekends: all southbound EXCEPT 454 departs 15min later.

Your new mobile site f—— sucks. It doesn’t even show me the times correctly. Good job.

Well I can see that Tina’s upset. I’m not that upset. However, when I downloaded the iCalTrain Schedule from the App Store for my iPhone a few days ago, I expected it to be accurate. It’s not, so I missed a train in Palo Alto. The schedule does not reflect the changes made on March 2, 2009. When will the App be updated?

By the way, I think the site is pretty good and it’s quick and easy to use. It would be nice if additional fare information were available including info at the new 8-ride tickets.

As an interesting note: Caltrain+ for Palm has always been accurate, updated quickly, and free. I was shocked to find people charging for a Caltrain schedule app. Guess I’m use to Palm land, where cool apps like this don’t cost money.

@Tina and George, the web version of iCaltrain was updated on March 2nd. The App Store version was submitted prior to March 2nd, but took more than a week for Apple to approve the free update. I think they were busy getting ready for the OS 3.0 announcement thus the delay.
April 1st, 2009 at 3:29 pm
@George, I decided not to show the 8-ride fare because I felt that it would clutter up the screen too much.
April 1st, 2009 at 3:31 pm
@John, the App Store version of iCaltrain is much faster than the web version. Its user interface has been optimized for speed and requires a lot fewer clicks than Caltrain+ for Palm or other Caltrain apps for iPhone. That’s one of the reason why it’s the best rated Caltrain app in the App Store.

I bought your App, and I was just wondering.. is there a default screen? Because when I launch it… it shows my background instead of a default screen like other apps
April 26th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
@J, did you mean a splash screen during loading? No, it doesn’t currently have one. Got any suggestions?

I’m viewing a text version from my Blackberry. I don’t see a train number with the schedule. When the trains are delayed by even 10 min, I need the train number to be sure I’m boarding the correct one.

this website helped me out a lot and its just as efficent as bart.gov/wirless. thumbs up

caltrain has announced that it will have 2 bike cars on some trains. would it be possible to incorporate a small icon that notifies riders of these trains?
May 26th, 2009 at 12:42 am
@Daily Rider: it currently doesn’t display the train numbers because many mobile phones don’t have the screen width to show it. Which Blackberry do you use? Maybe I can special case popular models.
@jawun: glad you find it useful.
@Daniel: do you know if these 2-bike-car trains are marked on the schedule? I couldn’t find an announcement on Caltrain’s website.

Can u fix the hour headers , fir example on the iPhone display the route palo alto to blossom hill, it displays 4am,
However the train is 4pm!!
Also can u also add a link to display all stops that a train makes
4example if I click on the
7:03am train leaving San jose display allths stops it makes
This makes it easier to find alternate routes
For example I need to find the next train to leave SF
Now I have to type in a destination, if I type in redwood city as a dest I may miss other trains that don’t necessary stop at redwood city

@Mike. The current version of the iCaltrain app doesn’t work correctly on my device. No arrival times are shown. The train number seems to appear twice. All travel times are zero minutes. Some entries have one or two plus signs next to them.(Limited and express?) Unfortunately, it is unusable. My device configuration is below.

@steve, the south bound trains to Capitol, Blossom Hill, Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy have the headers fixed. I didn’t realize that those stops are only served in the afternoon. Thanks.
@carlos: try pointing your laptop browser to http://m.icaltrain.com/ . that’s how i access the schedule on my mac.
@Daily Rider: are you using http://m.icaltrain.com/ ? The iPhone/gPhone/Palm Pre optimized version will not show correctly on Blackberry browsers. Please email me directly and we can maybe find a time to fix the problem in person: mike (at) icaltrain dot com.

Alot of bloggers are not very happy with this new iPad.There was just 2 much hoopla about it and alot blogers got disapointed.Quite frankly, I actually see some of the awesome potential uses of the gizmo. Third-party soft for playing music, games, newspapers and magazine and books, all kinds of awesome stuff, but they just didn’t really sell it right (excluding the books). It looks rather unfinished

Any chance of making the website Blackberry friendly in the near future? Or create a Blackberry app? Blackberry has more users out there than Apple and Android - I think this would be very helpful for a lot of people. Thanks!
